Pre-placement assessments are tailored to the role in question using either questionnaire based assessment or, where appropriate face-to-face consultations.

Pre-employment assessments conducted after an offer of employment has been made, in line with the Equality Act, are a useful way to ensure that the role and the potential employee are well matched from a health perspective minimising future risks of absence or performance issues. Assessments ensure that where it is necessary to make reasonable adjustments to the role that this can be undertaken.

Establishing a baseline for those who require health surveillance, for example audiometry or lung function testing, is most appropriately done before they start the role. This not only ensures the employee is fit for the role in question but also reduces the risk of pre-existing problems being attributed to the role with your organisation.
